Publishing: There is more to publishing a book than creating a PDF and uploading it to a printer. Layout and design are required for the interior pages and covers (back, spine, and front) to look great. Writing standards need to be followed (the Chicago Manual of Style) so that literary agents and bookstore owners take your writing seriously. Technical specifications are required to be followed to meet industry standard printing rules (PDF export specs, for example). AFP takes care of all that (and more). 

Distribution: There are two primary places your book needs to be accepted on to get the best and widest distribution: Amazon KDP and IngramSpark. Each has its own strengths, royalty agreements, and limitations. Choosing the right combintation for your book is instrumental. AFP will get you on both platforms for worldwide distribution. 

Marketing: Authors need to be aware that they play a key role in marketing their book or books. A publishing house like AFP (or for that matter any traditional publishing house) cannot market your book without your involvement. You must be ready to promote your book in venues that become available to you. AFP hosts book fairs and uses other channels to help authors not only have the necessary distribution channels available but also provides marketing opportunities.
